Typhoon MELOR (20W) regains Category 4 strength...approaching Northern Marianas.

*Residents and visitors along the Mariana Islands should closely monitor the progress of MELOR (20W).

+ Forecast Outlook: MELOR is expected to continue and intensify while moving WNW w/in the next 24 to 48 hours, passing north of Saipan early tonight. The 2 to 5-day Long-Range Forecast shows MELOR continuing moving WNW across the Western Pacific Ocean reaching near Super Typhoon strength tomorrow. This system shall start recurving northeastward in the direction of Southern Japan on Tuesday Oct 06.

+ Effects: MELOR's circulation remains organized over the past 12 hours and approaching Northern Marianas...Its inner rainbands is now moving into Saipan area...outer bands spreading across the rest of the Marianas. Eyewall expected to move into Saipan before or after sunset. 1-day rainfall accumulations of 100 up to 200 mm (moderate to heavy rain) can be expected along MELOR's rainbands...with isolated accumulations of up to 400 mm (very heavy rain) near the center of the storm.
