  • Tropical Depression 93W (JOLINA) slows down as it tries to organize over the South China Sea...Southern China under its threat.
  • Residents and visitors along Southern China should closely monitor the progress of 93W.
Forecast Outlook: 93W is expected to continue moving West to WNW across the South China Sea and shall strike Southern China in the next few days.

Effects: 93W's broad circulation remains over the South China Sea. Rainfall accumulations of up to 200-300 mm can be expected within its circulation. Current SW Monsoon Intensity: STRONG >> Moderate to strong southwesterly winds not in excess of 65 kph with occasional showers or rains, and passing squalls can be expected along the following affected areas: VISAYAS, PALAWAN, MINDORO, METRO MANILA, SOUTHERN & WESTERN LUZON, AND PARTS OF BICOL REGION. Possible landslides, mudslides, mudflows (lahars) and life-threatening flash floods are likely to occur along steep mountain/volcanic slopes, river banks, low-lying & flood-prone areas of the affected areas.

New Tropical Disturbance 98W (LPA) has been spotted forming off the Philippine Sea...currently located near lat 19.5N lon 130.0E...or about 855 km ESE of Basco, Batanes...with 1-min maximum sustained winds of 30 kph...almost stationary while embedded within the active and broad Monsoon Trough (ITCZ).

This system will be closely monitored for possible development into a Significant Tropical Cyclone within the next 06 to 24 hours.
